Asake, the stage name of well-known musician Ahmed Ololade, has explained why he chooses to use his mother’s name.
“My mother’s name serves as my stage name. People used to refer to me as “omo Asake” while I was a member of the cultural group, which in Yoruba means “child of Asake.” And eventually, it just stuck. People abandoned “Asake” and ceased adding the “omo.” I choose to abide by it because I felt it was great,” he remarked.
The performer claimed that he chose his stage name because it was hip.
In the Autium 2023 issue of Pause Magazine, Asake made this disclosure.
He added that he would keep on singing in Yoruba.
