Grammy-winning musician, Burna Boy, has been characterized as “sleazy, cheap, very unoriginal, and very fake” by maverick singer, Lawale Lfr, also known as Brymo.
In a recent interview with TVC, the ‘Ara’ crooner also stated that Burna Boy did not deserve to win the Grammy for his fifth studio album, ‘Twice As Tall,’ citing his lack of creativity and the fact that the majority of his songs are samples.
He also referred to Wizkid and Davido, as well as Burna Boy, as “thieves” who are stealing from Fela’s Afrobeat sacrifices.
“I saw a video where he [Burna Boy] was saying that he was the Jesus of afrobeats,” Brymo explained. And he placed Davido and Wizkid on similar mountains.
“I believe he [Burna Boy] is sleazy, cheap, and a thief.” Quite unimaginative. Very phoney. Every song he writes is a sample or a stolen slogan. Who would do that? And who gives you a Grammy for it?
“Afrobeats is a musical genre.” It isn’t a genre. Afrobeat is a genre created by Fela Kuti. It’s also disrespectful that a new generation of musicians simply appended an’s’. And tried to make other sets of one-digit numbers: ‘Wizkid is the first. Burna Boy, Davido…’ No way, no how. They’re all thieves.
“Do you realize how hard Baba [Fela] worked to create afrobeat?” Anyway, I believe we have a massive problem.”
